This is your opportunity to join a thriving, well-resourced clinical trials team at Macquarie University Health, where you will play a pivotal role in bringing new oncology therapies from bench to bedside.

As a Medical Oncology Fellow, you will be embedded within a large academic Medical Oncology unit, working across Phase I to III oncology trials and contributing directly to the development of new medicines that have the potential to transform patient outcomes. You will be supported by a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities on the Macquarie University campus, conveniently located beside the Macquarie University Metro station in one of Sydney's fastest growing precincts.

About the Role

You will provide expert medical care to patients enrolled in oncology clinical trials, working closely with Principal Investigators, research nurses, clinical trial coordinators and external stakeholders. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing clinical management and timely treatment for patients participating in oncology clinical trials across tumour streams, ensuring all trial-related procedures are completed and accurately documented
  • Assisting Principal Investigators in meeting the regulatory requirements of clinical trials
  • Supervising and committing to accurate documentation and completion of electronic medical records, including clinical decisions, tests, procedures, discharge diagnoses and instructions
  • Attending and contributing to sponsor meetings regarding trial safety and the feasibility of potential new trials
  • Participating in Discipline, Program and MQ Health meetings, including Morbidity and Mortality meetings
  • Contributing to the broader academic mission of the unit through education, mentorship and research activity

This position is available on a part-time or full-time basis.

About You

You are a qualified Medical Oncologist who thrives in a fast-paced clinical trials environment. You bring a genuine commitment to research, education and multidisciplinary collaboration, and you are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to the development of novel cancer therapies.

Selection Criteria

  • Full unconditional registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) including Specialist Registration, with FRACP or equivalent qualification in Medical Oncology
  • Demonstrated passion for and commitment to clinical trials, education and research in oncology
  • Previous experience as an investigator or sub-investigator on oncology clinical trials (desirable)
  • Highly developed interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic clinical environment
  • Knowledge of and commitment to continuous improvement, evidence-based practice and promoting a culture of safety, quality, innovation and best practice
  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) principles and regulatory requirements relevant to clinical trial conduct
